STRUCTURAL/CIVIL ENGINEER

This position requires thorough knowledge of civil/structural design and engineering techniques. Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria

Devise new approaches to problems, prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices.

 

SKILL & REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 2 years proven experience industry experience will be an added advantage (recent graduates will be considered).

  • Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.

  • Responsible for layout and details portions of projects using schematic and conceptual layouts.

  • Assume the lead engineer’s role on assigned projects. May serve as Project Engineer and as a designated Client contact on smaller, less complex projects.

  • Develop probable construction cost estimates for projects.

  • Coordinate work with other disciplines such as plumbing, masonry, mechanical, electrical, etc.

  • Handle routine contract administration.

  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents (Microsoft Project/AutoCAD/ArchiCad).

  • Perform field activities such as observe and record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements within project area.

  • Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents.

  • Capable and experienced in managing and performing projects in a fast paced environment. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to needs and demands without difficulty, strong ability to multi-task and attention to detail is a MUST.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and/or Diploma in Civil Engineering with experience with knowledge in civil and/or structural engineering, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education; or

  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Fluent in both English & Kiswahili

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Work requires significant local travel to current and potential clients.

  • A valid Passport.

Quantity Surveyor

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of tender and contract documents including Bill of Quantities

  • Preparing and analyzing costings for tenders

  • Processing and submission of „Requests for Proposals Expression of Interest and Interest to Bid

  • Participating in establishing client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies

  • Undertaking costs analysis for project work as well as material/labor estimation

  • Performing risk, value management and cost control

  • Evaluating and reporting on contractual claims from contractors

  • Monitoring each stage of construction to make sure that costs are in line with forecasts as well as perform risk and value management

  • Checking to ensure that materials and equipment meet contract specifications and the ordered quantities meet with project estimations and budgets as well as advise on procurement strategies

  • Perform all Quality Assurance checks on all projects

  • Ability to prepare weekly & monthly reports on all ongoing projects

  • Checking valuations for payment to contractors

  • Providing leads to new businesses opportunities and have solid networks o Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations

  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the Management.

Person Specifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution in Quantity Surveyor

  • Diploma from a recognized Technical Institution with 3 years hands on experience

  • Good computer software knowledge (Excel, Word, AutoCAD, 3D Max, Powerpoint, InDesign, Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop, Sketchup & Project Symbols)

  • Sales and Marketing experience will be a plus

  • Be registered with BORAQS as a Quantity Surveyor

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project

  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines

  • A self-motivated individual able to work with minimal or no supervision

Draftsman(architectural Technician) Job Responsibilities

  • Work directly with technical staff, sales staff and customers to produce drawings and bills of material from sketches, existing drawings, and electronic images, along with written and verbal descriptions.

  • Work closely with Sales and installation team to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information and are error free.

  • Utilizes drafting resources to create new tools to more efficiently carry out above mentioned tasks; includes hardware and software design.

  • Work from customer drawings, company drawings, vendor drawings or specifications. Use corporate drawing standards as guidelines.

  • Helping in attending the Site meeting of complex projects for better understanding of client requirements.

  • Helping in survey for bigger projects so as to have clear understanding while drafting the drawing and designing the solution.

  • Maintain all the drawing records date wise with revision numbers and the person requested for the changes in the drawing for sales and installation team.

Skills and Qualifications for Draughtsman Jobs in Kenya

  • Degree in electrical engineering or drafting design or equivalent experience required or

  • Diploma from a recognized Technical Institution with 1-3 years drafting experience preferred.

  • Must have valid driver’s license.

  • Maintains professional standards in their work

  • Keen on targets

  • Working knowledge of ISO and OSHA procedures

  • Excellent command of AutoCAD and/or ArchiCAD
